District Mission Statement

Athletics in the secondary schools is an integral part of the curriculum of the school. Education in the public schools has a multiple responsibility that might be stated as follows:

The purpose of the school is to help each student:

1. To develop his/her potentialities to the maximum;
2. To build a strong character with respect for the rights of others;
3. To develop a sense of personal initiative;
4. To become acquainted with ways of earning a living and the many qualifications needed;
5. To develop the understanding, skills, habits and attitudes necessary for competence in his/her chosen career as well as for full enjoyment and appreciation of life;
6. To use both critical thinking and good judgment in reaching decisions;
7. To become a well informed, responsible citizen;
8. To be open-minded and to want to continue to learn;
9. To act upon an understanding of and loyalty to our American democratic ideals;
10. To develop good work habits and pride in careful workmanship;
11. To understand and follow good health and safety practices;
12. To develop a philosophy of life and a sense of values;
13. To understand his/her fellow student athletes and learn to live and work together with them in the same world of peace.

The total program of the school must consider the total development of each pupil. In the schools which serve all the children of all the people, we find boys and girls of widely varied backgrounds, abilities and needs. The task of the school is to meet as effectively as possible the needs and interests of all these pupils.
